Terms of Use
By using IsItHurricaneSeasonYet.com you agree to the terms below. Plain language version: this site displays public NHC and NOAA data and translates it for a general audience — it is not emergency management guidance, and nothing here should substitute for following your local emergency manager's instructions during an active storm.
1. Acceptance
Your access to and use of this site is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these terms. If you disagree with any part, please don't use the site.
2. Not emergency management guidance — please read carefully
Nothing on this site constitutes official emergency management guidance, evacuation orders, or emergency directives of any kind. This includes — but is not limited to — threat levels, storm category ratings, proximity estimates, prep urgency recommendations, "Is This My Storm?" routing, surge risk assessments, and all other storm-related content.
This site displays publicly available NHC and NOAA data and presents it in a consumer-readable format. The people who built it are not meteorologists, emergency managers, or government officials of any kind.
If a hurricane threatens your area, follow your local emergency management agency's instructions. Mandatory evacuation orders, shelter-in-place directives, and zone-based warnings are issued by local authorities who have real-time situational awareness this site cannot replicate. Do not make evacuation decisions based on this site.
Life-safety emergency: If you are in immediate danger from an active storm, call 911 or your local emergency number. Do not wait.
3. Threat level and storm data accuracy
Storm position, intensity, and track data displayed on this site comes from the NHC and is updated per advisory (approximately every 6 hours). The NHC is the authoritative source; we display their data but do not validate or supplement it. There is an inherent lag between conditions in the real world and what this site reflects. Do not rely solely on this site during an active storm emergency — monitor NHC.NOAA.gov directly and follow your local emergency manager.
Threat level classifications and the "Is This My Storm?" decision table are editorial interpretations of NHC data, not official government guidance. The cone of uncertainty displayed on this site is derived from NHC GeoJSON data but may not render at exactly the same fidelity as NHC's official graphics.
4. Prep timing guidance
The "Prep Window" widget and related preparedness timing information are based on historical average storm track data and general lead time estimates. Real storms behave differently from averages. Lead times for specific storms can be shorter or longer. Use this information for general planning, not as a countdown for a specific active storm.
5. Accuracy and data limitations
Storm data is sourced from NHC's CurrentStorms.json (updated per advisory, ~6 hours) and GTWO formation outlook (updated twice daily). Seasonal forecast data comes from NOAA CPC (published May and August). Historical track data comes from HURDAT2. We make no guarantee about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the data displayed.
Your reliance on any information on this site is entirely at your own risk.
6. Affiliate disclosure
Some product links on this site — including links to generators, storm shutters, emergency supply kits, fuel cans, and other preparedness supplies — are Amazon Associates affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate compensation does not influence which products are linked or how they are described.
7. Intellectual property
The site's original content, design, and code are the property of the site operator unless otherwise noted. Third-party content — including NHC storm data, NOAA forecasts, HURDAT2 historical data, OpenStreetMap geocoding, and web fonts — remains the property of its respective owners and is used under the terms of applicable licenses. 10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, IsItHurricaneSeasonYet.com and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your access to or use of this site — including, without limitation, any preparedness or evacuation decisions made in reliance on content presented here. 11. Indemnification
